Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Getting Started
What exactly is Bettertained?
Bettertained is an entertainment recommendation engine that prioritizes personal, contextual, and socially aware content discovery. Instead of endless scrolling through generic feeds, we combine AI-driven personalization with human curation to help you find movies and series. Soon we will also include books, music, and podcasts you will actually love.
How do I start getting good recommendations?
When you first create an account, our fun onboarding flow will ask you a few questions about your favorite genres, consumed media, and the streaming services you use. This helps our algorithm learn your tastes immediately. The more feedback you give us, the better our recommendations get.
Pricing & Subscriptions
Is Bettertained free to use?
Yes, Bettertained is currently completely free to use! As we continue to grow and add new capabilities, we will introduce a premium subscription in the future. This upcoming subscription will unlock exclusive features and advanced recommendation tools, but a robust core experience will remain available to help you discover great content.
AI & Recommendations
How does the AI decide what to show me?
Our next-generation AI model takes into account your personal preferences, the streaming platforms you use, and your explicit "no-gos" (like age restrictions or specific genres you dislike). We believe in transparent AI, meaning we will always show you why a specific piece of content was recommended to you in plain language.
Can I get recommendations based on my current mood?
Yes! Bettertained features context pickers that allow you to filter recommendations based on your current mood, the time of day, or your social setting. You can easily ask the app for something like a "30-minute cozy watch for Tuesday night."
What are "Bettertained Picks"?
To keep your discovery experience fresh, we send out weekly curated drops. These are highly personalized, AI-generated "Weekly Picks" that act like a small gift of new content to explore, preventing your feed from ever feeling stale.
Social Features & Group Watching
Can I use Bettertained with my friends?
Absolutely. Recommendations from friends and family are often the most trusted, so we built "Circles" directly into the app. You can invite friends, share content, and create shared wishlists for collaborative curation. Circles will be available in summer.
We can never agree on what to watch. Can the app help?
Yes! Our Group Mode allows you to create a shared recommendation feed combining the tastes of two or more users. If you still can't decide, we have a fun "Spin the Wheel" decision helper to make picking something frictionless and fair. Group Mode will be available in summer.
Saving & Organizing Content
How do I save content I want to watch later?
You can organize everything in your Personal Recommendation Vault. This is a central space where you can save, tag, and revisit content across all formats. Soon you'll be able to import recommendations you've received via text messages, social media DMs, or your phone's notes app.
Can I watch content directly through Bettertained?
While we don't host the content ourselves, we make the transition to streaming platforms seamless. You will find direct "Watch now" links to the platforms where the content is currently available, including your subscribed major streamers and free local providers.
